Subsequent games introduced the Mushroom Kingdom, Princess Peach and the antagonist Bowser. In 1983, Miyamoto produced the arcade game Mario Bros., which starred Mario and his brother, Luigi. In certain advertisements, Jumpman was named Mario, after the landlord of Nintendo of America's offices, and the name stuck. As his name suggests, the character completed levels by jumping over barrels and climbing ladders to rescue the Lady kidnapped by Donkey Kong. Created by Shigeru Miyamoto in 1981, Mario first appeared as the protagonist Jumpman in Donkey Kong. The franchise further includes television shows, a live-action movie, comics and promotional materials.

While the Mario series mainly features platform adventures, often involving the safe rescue of Princess Peach, it also includes role-playing, puzzle, racing and educational games. The character Mario appears in over 200 games on every Nintendo console ever made, and in the 1990s, a survey discovered more children recognized Mario than Mickey Mouse. The game is given a lot more replay value when there is incentive to come back and beat your highscores.Mario is the most popular video game franchise of all time, selling over 260 million games worldwide. I made sure to include a highscore system too, in order to give players a reason to come back to the game. The core elements of the game remain the same while the Player 1 takes control of Mario and Player 2 takes control of Luigi. This is great for split-screen multiplayer gameplay, especially if the player is struggling with singleplayer mode and needs some help. At the main menu, the player can select whether they wish to play singleplayer or with a friend. The most significant change I made, when compared to the original, is the addition of a multiplayer mode. I thought this would make for a fun twist on the original enemy design. The Goombas behave similarly, however when they are damaged they will become angry and their movement speed increases. The Koopas simply walk left and right down the path until they reach the bottom of the screen. There are two main enemy types, based off of the original.

Another difference between levels is that as each level the enemies spawn faster and faster, making the game more challenging. This helps to make each level feel distinct from one another. As you can see, each level has its own colour scheme, different from the last.

I created my own textures based off of the original textures, in Photoshop, and put them into the game.
